Publisher’s Letter – June 2026

By Dana Benjamin

For more than 36 years, Prime Time Monthly has been dedicated to serving New Mexico’s 50+ community with trusted information, local resources, and meaningful connection. Over the years, one thing has become incredibly clear to us — our readers don’t just read this publication; they truly engage with it.

Whether it’s participating in The Quiet Page, responding to Prime Time Voices, submitting answers to our Search & Find Game, or sharing thoughtful ideas through You Asked, We Wrote, your participation continues to shape what Prime Time has become. The calls, emails, letters, and conversations we receive remind us every day that connection still matters deeply — especially in a world that often feels increasingly disconnected.

That engagement is exactly what inspired the launch of the NM Aging Well Initiative (NMAWI) — Helping New Mexico Age Well Together. Built around Prime Time Monthly, the Family Caregiver Resource Guide, and the Prime Time 50+ Expo, the initiative is designed to strengthen community connection, support healthy aging, and expand awareness of the many incredible resources available throughout New Mexico.

As we continue building this platform, I want to sincerely thank our readers for your encouragement, participation, and support. What began as a publication has evolved into something much larger — a true community platform centered on helping older adults, caregivers, and families feel more informed, connected, and supported.

One of the things we hear most often from readers is how much they value feeling seen and understood. Many older adults today are navigating significant changes — retirement, caregiving responsibilities, health concerns, the loss of loved ones, financial pressures, and the rapid pace of a changing world. Yet despite those challenges, we continue to see tremendous resilience, wisdom, humor, and compassion throughout this community. That spirit inspires us every month.

We also recognize how important local connection has become. In a time when so much communication feels impersonal or rushed, we believe there is still something deeply meaningful about community-centered storytelling and sharing resources that genuinely improve people’s lives. Whether it’s helping someone discover a local support program, find a new hobby, connect with other caregivers, or simply feel less alone in what they are experiencing, we believe those small moments of connection matter.

Another important part of our mission moving forward is helping bridge generations within our communities. Aging well is not only about healthcare or services — it is also about relationships, purpose, and belonging. We hope to continue creating opportunities where older adults can share their experiences, stories, talents, and wisdom with younger generations while also remaining active participants in the rapidly evolving world around them.

We also know that aging well looks different for every individual and every family. Some are embracing retirement and new adventures, while others are stepping into caregiving roles or facing unexpected life transitions. Our goal is to continue offering content and resources that meet people where they are — with compassion, encouragement, and practical support they can genuinely use in their daily lives.

New Mexico has always had a strong sense of community and culture, and we believe older adults play an essential role in preserving that spirit. Their experiences, resilience, and perspective continue to shape families, neighborhoods, and communities across our state. Through both Prime Time Monthly and the NM Aging Well Initiative, we hope to continue honoring those contributions while helping people access the support and encouragement they deserve.

I would also like to extend a very special thank-you to La Vida Llena and The Neighborhood in Rio Rancho for becoming the very first Thrive Partners of the NM Aging Well Initiative. Their early support and belief in this vision mean so much, and we are honored to work alongside organizations that share such a strong commitment to older adults, caregivers, and community well-being throughout New Mexico.

This year is especially meaningful as we prepare for the 30th Prime Time 50+ Expo, which will be held at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science. We are incredibly excited about this new location and the opportunities it creates to continue bringing together organizations, resources, caregivers, families, and older adults from across our community.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to continuing to grow alongside our readers and to creating content, events, and resources that truly serve the evolving needs of New Mexico’s aging population. We are grateful to every reader, contributor, advertiser, volunteer, and community partner who helps make this mission possible.

Thank you for continuing to grow with us. We truly appreciate your trust, your participation, and the role you play in helping us build stronger communities together.

Warm regards,
Dana Benjamin
