By Prime Time Staff,
There are days — sometimes stretches of days — when motivation simply isn’t there. Even when we know movement is good for us, getting started can feel like the hardest part. The good news is that staying active doesn’t require high energy or perfect discipline. Often, it just requires a gentler approach.
One of the most helpful mindset shifts is to lower the bar. Instead of aiming for a full workout, start with something small and manageable. A five-minute walk, a few stretches, or even standing up and moving around the house counts. More often than not, once you begin, your body will naturally want to keep going. And if it doesn’t, you’ve still done something positive.
Routine can also make a difference. When movement becomes part of your day — like brushing your teeth or making coffee — it requires less decision-making. A short walk after breakfast or light stretching before bed can become habits that feel natural over time.
It’s also helpful to focus on how movement makes you feel, rather than how much you accomplish. Even gentle activity can improve mood, reduce stiffness, and increase energy. Those small benefits add up quickly.
Finally, give yourself grace. Motivation comes and goes for everyone. Staying active isn’t about being perfect — it’s about showing up in whatever way you can. On low-energy days, a little movement is more than enough.
