The 34th annual Chocolate Fantasy gala, “The Big Bang: 13.8 Billion Years of Wonder,” is scheduled for March 7 at Sandia Resort & Casino in Albuquerque. The fundraiser is the largest hosted by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Foundation, whose mission is to advance the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science and extend its impact across New Mexico.
The event has become one of Albuquerque’s premier gala fundraisers, bringing together businesses, community leaders, and philanthropists for an unforgettable evening that sells out every year. It annually features thematic chocolate sculptures and bonbons by New Mexico’s most creative and celebrated chocolatiers. In alignment with this year’s Big Bang theme, attendees can expect to be awed by pieces inspired by the creation of the universe. The evening also includes cocktails and fine dining, live and silent auctions, entertainment, and more. Judging by a panel of renowned chocolatiers and local industry experts, plus attendee voting will determine the winners of the 2026 sculpture and bonbon competitions.
This year’s gala holds special meaning as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, marking four decades of discovery, education, and community impact. More than just a black-tie event, Chocolate Fantasy helps raise vital funds that ensure science education, exhibitions, and outreach programs remain accessible to communities across the state. In 2025, Chocolate Fantasy raised over $470,000 for the Foundation.
New for 2026 is the opportunity to underwrite a chocolate sculpture by providing $2,500 in funds to support a chocolatier in their sculpting endeavors for the event. In addition, an on-site planetary telescope viewing station will be prepared by the Museum’s education team, and the event will culminate with an intimate afterparty once the gala and ballroom close.
Chocolate Fantasy is presented for the 30th year by KPMG.
