The Adobe Theater invites you to a delightful new comedy, A Year in Quirky Town, written by local playwright Terri Klein and directed by Cameron Illidge-Welch. With only five performances—on July 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13—this special fundraiser offers a hilarious, heartfelt tribute to life in Albuquerque, filled with song, story, and a touch of Southwest magic.

Through clever dialogue and original songs, A Year in Quirky Town takes audiences on a whimsical tour of Albuquerque across the seasons. The story follows aspiring actress Willow Shaker-Spears, whose Hollywood dreams fall flat. On her way home to Kansas, her car breaks down in Albuquerque—and that’s where her real adventure begins. What seems like bad luck may just be the start of something unexpectedly wonderful.
Playwright Terri Klein explains:
“The idea came from realizing how many people live in Albuquerque by accident—some literally got stuck here! That sparked a single song, and eventually, I shaped the play into a full-length story with characters who feel deeply rooted in the city. With feedback from the Albuquerque Theatre Guild’s Playwrights’ Circle, the show evolved into a heartfelt, funny narrative that’s as quirky and endearing as the city itself.”
Director Cameron Illidge-Welch adds:
“I connected with this story right away. I’m not from Albuquerque, but I fell in love with it after a visit in 2016—and never left. Directing A Year in Quirky Town has been a love letter to the city and its people, and working with Terri has only deepened my admiration for her talent and spirit.”
