The Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs, Inc. is presenting a 50th Anniversary Celebration on Friday June 20, 2025 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Albuquerque Garden Center located in Los Altos Park at 10120 Lomas Blvd NE. The Celebration is free to the public. After the opening ceremony, there will be refreshments and info tables from the Clubs making up the Council and from the Master Gardeners Program.
The Council of Albuquerque Clubs was formed in 1950. The present building, which stands on land leased from the City of Albuquerque, was built with private funds raised by volunteers to serve as a location for member Clubs to hold meetings, flower shows, and educational classes. It was dedicated in 1975. The member Clubs have planted specific gardens to demonstrate the focus of their Club. Upkeep and evolution of the Gardens has been going on since. The Center is staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It is funded by fees paid by the member Clubs, income from a rummage sale in February, three annual Council public plant sales, facility rentals, gift shop sales, and donations.
From April 15 through October 15, the gardens are open to the public from 9:30am-2:30pm M-F. Info about member Clubs, including how to join, is available in the building, which also houses a gift shop and an extensive horticultural library. The building is also an event center. The website includes Facebook and Instagram, garden photos, information on current public happenings with Clubs, info on Council public events such as the Fall Harvest and Holiday Festivals, and info on how to book the venue.
