Tap ‘N Taco

By Mary Ann Hatchitt

When it comes to tacos, there’s a bevy of places in town to find them. But a new restaurant is offering authentic, fresh ingredient-based Mexican tacos in a variety of flavors at fast-food prices of just $2 per filled shell. Welcome to Tap ‘N Tacos, locally owned by some of Albuquerque’s familiar food purveyors.

Tap N’ Taco’s owner, entrepreneur Joshua Martinez grew up in Albuquerque’s North Valley. Martinez and his business partners, Xavier Chavira (owner of Barbacoa El Primo in Albuquerque), Joel Marquez, and Juan Estella, opened the eatery in November. Heralding, “the best tacos and beer in town,” Tap ‘N Tacos is located at 1120 Pat D’Arco Highway in Rio Rancho in a stylishly refurbished old Burger King just north of Corrales Road.

With a combined 20 years in the food service industry, the group behind Tap ‘N Taco is enthusiastic about offering delicious Mexican tacos with the mission to be known as the best tacos in town. Their taco flavors include al pastore (spicy marinated pork with pineapple on top), carne pollo (seared chicken), carne asada (beef), barbacoa (beef slow cooked with seasonings), and fish and shrimp. Tap ‘N Taco also serves vegan friendly items, such as tofu tacos, a papas taco, and quesadillas. All the food is made with natural ingredients – a fresh Mexican corn tortilla, fresh cilantro, a variety of sauces, and seasoned with fresh onion and a wedge of lime.

Tap ‘N Taco has a full liquor license, offering eight local beers on tap, a selection of Mexican beers, and margaritas. Sports fans will enjoy the restaurant’s high-definition television. Dining at Tap ‘N Taco provides the option of seating indoors and outdoors and is equipped for a drive-through.

Tap N’ Taco is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until midnight Friday and Saturday, and until 9 p.m. Sunday.
